Course Design

Church Planter Incubator is a two-year interactive learning environment designed from research conducted in 8 different cultures over 12 years.

That research elucidated 34 core competencies that are absolutely essential for church planting. These essentials form the 16 modules that make up the course and are developed in the participant mainly through the teaching of Timothy J. Keller and the City to City movement.

The training and content is high calibre and Incubator is stated by many international leaders, in different contexts, to be the best church planting training available. It has been translated into numerous languages.

The 34 competencies for an effective church leader or planter span 4 critical competency domains:

These are:

1. Living inter-connectedly with a gospel dynamic (Personal—Interpersonal domain)

2. Communicating grace and truth in a way that forms and engages disciples (Prophetic domain)

3. Creating a missional culture (Priestly domain)

4. Executing visionary leadership (Kingly domain)

The Incubator training curriculum is designed to help church leaders and planters develop toward becoming proficient in each of these 4 domains and each module is aimed specifically at addressing one or more of the 34 church leader or planter competencies.

Our Methods

We also train beyond normal educational methods (which often impart only information). Our methods are, again, developed from extensive research.

At each stage, two modules of content will be provided via an online platform (a commitment averaging 1-2 hours per week). We in Ireland then meet in an overnight retreat (away from the demands of home and ministry) and planters apply that content, using CTC’s educational methods, to their own lives and contexts.

Trainers and coaches walk with planters through this process.

The aim is to form competent, spiritual leaders who will be used of God to bring His kingdom to their context.
